Go with the Public Defender's Office?  Or a lawyer your sister's friend recommended that handles only divorces or civil work?

A Public Defender that handles over 100 cases has only so much time in a work day and your calls (and your case) are often answered and attended to "in the order in which they were received."  On the other hand, hiring a divorce lawyer or a civil lawyer to handle your criminal case is a lot like going to an eye doctor to have your tooth pulled.  The results aren't pretty,
